For all those music writers and fans struggling to explain to their friends what experimental SF-born Deerhoof is all about, upbeat vocalist Satomi Matsuzaki made it easy on us earlier this week.

She posted this arresting photo on Deerhoof's Facebook page and explained, “This is visually what deerhoof is about.” Ah, all makes sense now, doesn't it?

The long-running four-piece (b. 1994) – which is now split up across the country – released its We Do Parties digital EP on Feb. 26. It features Deerhoof remixed by the legendary Silver Apples, plus a cover of the Velvet Underground's “All Tomorrows Parties.”

The band also recently performed new arrangements of its songs for classical instruments in New York and Australia. Here's hoping Deerhoof brings it on home soon. But in the meantime, take comfort in the fact that you now know what the band is all about: a young spotted deer in the rain, shielded by a young boy with an umbrella in a busy downtown square, obviously.
